The latest new build from Macduff Shipyards, Excel BF 110, ran successful sea trials recently.

Along with Zenith BF 106, which was completed concurrently at Macduff Shipyard’s Buckie yard and is expected to run sea trials by the end of this month, Excel has the distinction of being the first in the UK to be fitted with a Tier III-compliant engine.

Both vessels are powered by Caterpillar C18 main engines paired with a high-efficiency selective catalytic reduction system to comply with the new emissions requirements for vessels with a keel laid after 1 January, 2021.

Skipper and partner in the Excel Derek Watt said that the new vessel had performed well in sea trials. “The boat is looking really good, and we’ve a completely different fit-out in the accommodation. It really does feel like a house, with a kitchen, not a galley.

“My wife’s had a good look around, and said it’s the first boat she’s ever ever liked the insides of!”

Full details of the new vessel will feature in Fishing News soon.
