The Fish on Friday website – a collaborative project initiated by the Fishmongers’ Company – aims to reconnect the British public with their local fisheries and coastal communities.

It has just launched an interactive map that connects people in all areas of the UK to their local seafood merchant, allowing them to purchase fresh seafood, and even get it delivered to their door.

There is also a range of recipes utilising British species, and a series of ‘how to’ guides on purchasing whole fish and shellfish.

The new map aims to address the massive challenges currently faced by the industry – and the fact that while three-quarters of seafood caught by the UK’s fishing fleet is exported, most of the seafood we eat is imported. With fish markets and the restaurant trade now closed across the country and overseas, fishermen need to find local markets – and the British public needs access to a vital fresh food supply.

The aim is to encourage more people to #BuyBritishSeafood, build resilience in coastal communities, and support the livelihoods of fishermen and those who work across the supply chain – not just during the Covid-19 crisis, but in the long term.

To get your business listed on the Fish on Friday site, send the business name, a description of the service on offer (delivery/collection, food boxes, etc), address, phone number, email address and website to: info@fishonfriday.org.uk
