Two orange lobsters caught in separate locations in the Western Isles have been released back into their native habitat, reports David Linkie.

While fishing from Paiblesgarry, North Uist, John Riley was surprised to see an orange undersized lobster in one of his creels, which he immediately returned to the seabed.

John Riley’s shellfish buyer Willie MacDonald later said that he had been sold a mature orange lobster during the summer, which he kept in a holding tank.

Plans were subsequently made to release the second orange lobster in the same area on the west side of North Uist where the juvenile one was caught.

John Riley also recorded a personal first recently by catching a lobster with two crusher claws.
