Within a few hours of the seasonal Isle of Man king scallop season opening at the beginning of last month, almost inevitably weather conditions in the middle of the Irish Sea deteriorated to provide challenging conditions for crews.

The traditional fishery is important for local Manx boats, as well as vessels from a number of ports bordering the east and west shorelines of the Irish Sea. Darren Purves captures some of the action in this pictorial review of the Isle of Man king scallop fishery.
