Hundreds of Christmas lights are now illuminating the night skies over Peterhead, the UK’s leading port, reports David Linkie.

Already tied up, having taking their remaining allocation of mackerel a few weeks ago, the midwater vessels Quantus, Kings Cross, Pathway were the first boats to put up Christmas lights at Peterhead, where an increasing number of whitefish vessels are now adding to the popular festival display.

At Whitby, the crew of the new Kinlochbervie trawler Sparkling Star UL 290 put on Santa hats and their new PFDs to wish Fishing News readers Merry Christmas and safe fishing in 2018, before heading north to start fishing.
