A meeting has been called at Lowestoft on Friday 16 June, where fishermen can put questions to the MMO and fishermen’s leaders on anything from day-to-day fishing issues to Brexit, reports John Worrall.

Above: Meeting convenor June Mummery of Lowestoft fish market operator, BFP Eastern, and Paul Lines, who last year formed the Lowestoft Fish Market Alliance, which now has 140 fishermen members.

The meeting has been convened by June Mummery of BFP Eastern, operators of Lowestoft fish market, who, together with local fisherman Paul Lines, last year formed the Lowestoft Fish Market Alliance to campaign for improved prospects for U-10s, with particular reference to Article 17 of the reformed CFP.

The first session, beginning at 10.30, will have MMO director of operations, Phil Haslam taking questions.

The second session, starting at 12.30, will have a panel comprising Barry Deas of NFFO, Jerry Percy of Low Impact Fishers of Europe (and formerly of NUTFA) and Aaron Brown of Fishing For Leave.

June Mummery said: “All fishermen from any part of the country – not just the east coast – are welcome. One of the key questions for the panel will be ‘who is going to lead the industry through Brexit?’

“Anyone who can’t come but would like to put a question to Phil Haslam or the panel, can email it to me at june@bfpeastern.co.uk.”

The meeting will take place at The Orbis Centre, Wilde Street, Lowestoft, NR32 1XH.
