Rare orange lobsterThis incredibly rare, orange lobster was caught by Daire Gallagher, a young fisherman from Burtonport in Co. Donegal, reports Pauric Gallagher.

Daire caught the unusual lobster in Arranmore bay, while hauling his pots set for crabs and lobsters.

Although it looks like it has been cooked, it is very much alive and a lobster institute in the US says this type of colour mutation is extremely rare.

Experts reckon only one in ten million are orange when alive, but that doesn’t seem to be the case this year.

Another, slightly larger, orange lobster was caught only a short distance from where this one was caught just a few weeks ago.

It is not known for certain if the colouration will stay the same when the lobster eventually moults to a new shell.

Like its predecessor, the rare lobster was released after its short stay in a store box.
