NOTICE FOR APPLICATION FOR SAFETY ZONE SCHEME DURING THE OPERATIONAL AND MAINTENANCE PHASE OF THE RACE BANK OFFSHORE WIND FARM

THE ELECTRICITY (OFFSHORE GENERATING STATIONS) (SAFETY ZONES) (APPLICATION PROCEDURES AND CONTROL OF ACCESS) REGULATIONS 2007 – STATUTORY INSTRUMENT 2007 NO 1948

Notice is hereby given that Race Bank Wind Farm Limited, a company registered in the UK (company number 05017828 with registered office at 5 Howick Place, London, England, SW1P 1WG) have applied for consent from the Secretary of State for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) as set out in the Energy Act 2004 and the Electricity (Offshore Generating Stations) (Safety Zones) (Application Procedures and Control of Access) Regulations 2007 (SI No 2007/1948) for safety zones as detailed below, for the operational Race Bank Offshore Wind Farm.

Two safety zone types are applied for, one to protect a Service Operations Vessel (SOV) performing regular routine maintenance, and one to cover periods of major maintenance:

  • 150m “rolling” safety zones around any wind turbine or offshore substation where the SOV is present; and
  • 500m “rolling” safety zones around any wind turbine or offshore substation where major maintenance is being undertaken (as indicated by the presence of a large vessel, e.g., heavy lift vessel, jack up vessel).

Details of the safety zones will be promulgated including through Notice to Mariners, and on site vessels (including the SOV) will liaise with nearby third party vessels to ensure awareness of any currently active (or soon to be active) safety zones.

Any person wishing to make representations to the Secretary of State about the application should do so in writing to the Secretary of State, c/o Rob Pridham, Energy Infrastructure Planning Team, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Orchard 2, Level 3, 1 Victoria Street, London SW1A 0ET, beiseip@beis.gov.uk, stating the name of the proposal and nature of their representations, not later than 28 days from the date or latest date of publication of the notice.
