The Whelk Fishing Permit (Wales) Order 2021 has recently come into force to conserve Whelk stocks across the Welsh zone and ensure the sustainability of the fishery. From March 2022 anyone wishing to fish for Whelk with pots in the Welsh zone will require a permit. The 2022 permit application window is now open. The Welsh Government have published a new Whelk Fishery web page, which provides useful links to all relevant information including how to apply for a permit.
