Established in 2019, Marine Environmental Solutions Limited (MES) is a wholly owned subsidiary of SFF Services Limited, which, in turn, is owned by the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation. MES provides a range of environmental related services to the offshore marine industries, including vessels and personnel. The Group has been managing fisheries observer schemes since 2008 with the present IFSSS phase funded by the Scottish Government.

We have a current requirement for two fisheries observers to undertake sampling onboard commercial fishing vessels to collect data and report on the catch under the fourth phase of IFSSS.

Candidates will possess a fisheries or marine biology qualification and/or knowledge of fishing practices or relevant work experience. Basic numeric and IT skills are essential, as is a full UK driving license. Seagoing and fisheries data collection experience would be advantageous. It is essential that the successful candidate possess (or has the ability to qualify for) basic fishing industry Sea Survival, Fire Fighting, First Aid and Safety Awareness certificates, complete the Marine Scotland Science (MSS) observer training programme, and pass an ENG1 medical.

These exciting roles will involve the candidates in a well-established scheme at the core of a vibrant industry sector in a project that connects fishing and science, with the aim of achieving sustainable fishing of our sea’s resources.
