We’re looking for someone who is experienced in working with fisheries and is excited by the chance to support UK & Irish fisheries in their sustainability journey and make an impact on the health of our oceans.

The MSC UK & Ireland team is searching for a Senior Fisheries Outreach Officer, to help us deliver our core MSC outreach program in the UK and be a key component of the team that delivers Project UK, a network of Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs) operating across the seas around the United Kingdom.

With Project UK Round 1 and 2 FIPs approaching the tail end of their lifetime, the projects require significant ongoing and increased support to enable them to meet the commitments of their timelines and actions plans, and make the improvements required to demonstrate their sustainability.

The Senior Fisheries Outreach Officer will also work with the UK & Ireland Fisheries Outreach team to support all relevant fisheries, including those currently, MSC certified, those engaged in Project UK, and any others interested in the certification and pre-assessment process, with an overall ambition to increase the number of fisheries in the MSC program.

Your working week will be varied; one day you could be minute-taking at one of our important Project UK Steering Group meetings online, the next you could be facilitating a workshop on fisheries management in Cornwall, with local fishermen.

In this role, we’re looking for someone who has a post-graduate degree or equivalent experience in fisheries management, assessment, research or consultancy, or marine science. We are also keen to work with someone who has at least two years of proven role-specific experience in this area, and as such has the practical familiarity of working directly with fisheries stakeholders and an excellent understanding of sustainability issues within fisheries.

Collaboration and working to develop and share opportunities are crucial in this role. We need you to be connected to our complete portfolio of work, program development, and milestones, so that there is cohesive and strategic support, enabling the full UK & Ireland team’s aims to be delivered.

Please note, this is a fixed-term contract for 24 months.

Closing date : 10 May 2022 at 9am, BST

The MSC is committed to flexible working. We are currently running a trial for hybrid working, and the successful candidate will need to work from the UK office a minimum of 2 days a week.
