The large-scale modernisation of the Campbeltown 85 seine netter Kiloran N 908 is progressing well at Kilkeel, reports David Linkie.
All the frames for the seiner’s new shelterdeck were in place towards the end of last month ready for plating work to begin. A number of hull plates are also being renewed after all the vessel’s deck and engineroom machinery, gutting shelter, whaleback, masts and lifting gantries were removed within two weeks of the vessel arriving at Kilkeel
D R Diesel are the main contractors for the rebuilding project, in which a number of other Kilkeel service companies including Ian Newell Fabrication, John Kearney Engineering and G Smyth Boats will also play prominent roles.
Now owned by the father and son team of Charlie and Charles McBride, the 26m Kiloran is the former Peterhead based whitefish vessel Rosemount PD 313.
Simon Oakes of Moray Firth Marine Surveys Ltd has undertaken the design work and stability calculations for the extensive project.
