Maiden Landings: First boxes raise nearly £3,000 for charity

Four charities benefited from the traditional charity auctions for the first boxes of fish landed last week by the new-build vessels Daystar FR 86, delivered by Parkol Marine Engineering, and the Macduff-built Zenith BF 106.

Following the trend towards pooled bids and a draw, an impressive 21 buyers made £100 bids for two boxes of monkfish landed at Peterhead by the Zenith, including one double bid, with the grand total of £2,300 to be split between the charities Marie Curie and Sands, which supports bereaved families.
The bidders’ list included Gordon Grieve, George Foreman, Nolan Seafoods, Joe Geddes, Martin Jack, Seafood Ecosse, Alan Smith, Alan Downie, Whitelink, Nordic Shellfish, French Fish Export, JH Milne, RJ Seafish, Pindarus, Coupar Seafoods, SSL, Eric Mair, Enterfoods, Colin Fraser, GT Seafoods, Gary Mitchell and Westward.
“The draw for the two boxes of monks was won by Gordon Grieve, and was kindly drawn by Mandy of Box Pool,” a spokesperson for Don Fishing said. “A big thank you from the skipper and owners of the Zenith.”
In Fraserburgh, a similar auction of the first box of monk landed by the Daystar saw six buyers – Westward Fishing, Seafood Sourcing, George Downie, G&J Jack, Whitelink Seafoods and Nordic Shellfish – place bids of £100 each for the box. G&J Jack won the subsequent raffle for the fish.
The funds raised were split between Fraserburgh RNLI and the Fishermen’s Mission.
Both vessels made very quick turnarounds and were back to the fishing immediately. Full reports on both vessels will feature in Fishing News shortly.
