Work currently being carried out on Skerries skipper John Anderson’s boat by Parkol Marine Engineering includes renewing the gunwales/bulwarks amidships and replacing the original steel deck casing and wheelhouse.
Plans for the modernisation were drawn up by naval architect Simon Oakes, of Moray Firth Marine Surveys Ltd, which also handled the stability calculations.
Service engineers from H Williamson & Sons of Scalloway travelled to Whitby from Shetland to remove the wheelhouse equipment, at the same time as the gunwale rails and plating were being renewed amidships.
The deck superstructure was then lifted off in two sections in preparation for the positioning of the new aluminium wheelhouse and steel deck casing, after which work to fit-out the interior spaces will commence.
A new North Sea winches net drum will also be fitted.
The 16.14m Renown JW was built in Yorkshire in 1989 at the Hepworth Shipyard, Paull, as Kookaburra RY 50.
