Nominating and Voting
The Fishing News Awards 2018 will shine a spotlight on the achievements, expertise and innovation of the UK and Ireland’s commercial fishing industries during 2017.
Do you know someone who deserves a Fishing News Award? Or do you yourself merit one? This is your chance to make your voice heard.
We are now inviting nominations for the 2018 Fishing News Awards until midnight on 13th February 2018, at which point we will accept no further nominations.
Once again we have a wide range of categories, each of which will culminate in an award being given at our Awards ceremony on May 24th 2018.
This year we are pleased to announce that introduction of two new categories. The first – ‘Trainee Fisherman of the Year’ – shines a spotlight on the excellent work being done by training centres across the UK in producing the next generation of outstanding fishermen.
The second is ‘The Sustainability Award’, sponsored by The Fishmongers’ Company, which seeks to recognise and reward outstanding innovation and achievement towards improving sustainability and environmental responsibility within the UK fishing industry.
Each award category can be found below – click on the links for quick access to information on each category.

The Nomination Process
Nominations can be made on behalf of a friend or colleague, and you can also put yourself or your company forward. Each category has strict entry criteria, and you will be asked to give the reasons behind your nominations when entering. We will also need accurate contact information for the person or organisation you nominate.
We are open to receive your nominations until midnight on 13th February 2018. No nominations can be accepted after that date.
Shortlists of those nominees with the most nominations for each category will be available to view on Friday, 23rd February 2018.
From 23rd February 2018 you will be able to vote in 9 of our categories via our secure online voting system. Voting will close at midnight on Friday, 27th April 2018.
Four categories – Port of the Year, Young Fisherman of the Year, the Sustainability Award, and the Lifetime Achievement Award – will not have public votes. Instead they will be judged by a panel drawn from the fishing industry, using all supporting evidence provided through the nomination process.
Nominations close at midnight on 13th February 2018.
Voting: 23rd February 2018 to midnight on 27th April 2018.
