CEFAS auctions off surplus fishing gear

Fishing News readers looking for a bargain may be interested to know that the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (CEFAS) confirmed last week that it had contracted Ramco, an asset management, online auction and ‘circular economy’ specialist, to dispose of its surplus equipment.
The majority of items being auctioned are specialist scientific marine equipment or miscellaneous items (test tubes, water pumps, generators, pipettes, freezers, centrifuges, etc), but they also include large quantities of ropes, plus nets, parlour pots, anchors, buoys and tanks of various sizes.
Fishermen can bid for items by registering an account on the auction page of the Ramco website at: bit.ly/3G1qwCi and participating in the monthly auctions.
Rodney Brash, senior marine engineer at CEFAS, said: “Following decades of accumulating equipment which we now no longer need, we were faced with the task of identifying an ethical and environmentally friendly disposal solution, and through our procurement process Ramco were selected.
“They delivered a solution quickly, removing all assets from our facility and preparing items for onward sale where possible. It’s great to know our redundant equipment will be given a new lease of life or, as a last resort, responsibly recycled.”
