How safety aware are you? Have the recent campaigns by industry champions reached you? The Fishing Industry Safety Group (FISG) wants to know more about where and how you get hold of your information about the fishing industry, be it through the pages of Fishing News, websites, word of mouth, Twitter or the other multiple media sites where information is now available.

The FISG is made up of the MCA, Seafish, the NFFO, the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation, the Northern Ireland Fishermen’s Federation, the Welsh Fishermen’s Association, the RNLI and the Shipbuilders’ and Shiprepairers’ Association.

It was set up with the ultimate goal of zero preventable deaths on fishing vessels in the UK, and to reduce the number of accidents.

The FISG promotes critical fishing safety messages through the Home and Dry campaign, with the aim of saving lives.

Key messages in campaigns have covered how to develop good-quality safety practices, awareness on preventing man-overboard incidents, and a recent campaign on maintaining vessel stability.

The current survey is part of new research in 2022 which will help the group plan future campaigns with the industry – so tell the FISG where you want to see advice and support, and which channels you prefer to use.

Denise Fraser, head of communications at Seafish, said: “We want to give people working in fishing the right information to help them with their job of keeping themselves and their crew safe at sea.

“We want to hear from people who work in the fishing industry to find out where they get, or share, news and information.

“Please help us by completing this quick, anonymous survey. It will only take six minutes, and everyone who takes part can enter a prize draw for £200-worth of Amazon vouchers.”
