A fishermen was flown to hospital in Shetland after going overboard from the Northern Star FR 55 on Sunday, 16 October, about 93 miles east of Fraserburgh.
The alarm was raised by the Northern Star on Sunday afternoon, and Shetland Coastguard was scrambled to the scene. The man was recovered back aboard by his crewmates and was then airlifted to Lerwick, where he was admitted to hospital. Police Scotland said his injuries were not life-threatening.
The Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) said: “The MAIB is aware of an incident that occurred onboard the fishing vessel Northern Star.
“A preliminary assessment is being undertaken and evidence is being gathered. At this stage we have not deployed inspectors to the site and are gathering evidence remotely.
“A decision on whether an investigation is to be undertaken will be taken by the chief inspector in the coming weeks once the evidence has been reviewed.”
