Fishing News Awards 2024: Last chance to make your nominations!

The deadline for nominations for this year’s Fishing News Awards is next Monday – don’t miss your chance to make sure that your local area is well represented among this year’s winners!
The only awards event dedicated to recognising achievement, innovation and success in the UK and Irish commercial fishing industry, the Fishing News Awards will crown winners in 12 categories this year.
Nominations will close at midnight on Monday, 12 February – so get your nominations in now to ensure that your favourites have a chance of recognition at
this year’s awards. You can nominate a colleague, a mentor or mentee, a friend, a family member – or indeed yourself!
Categories in the 2024 Fishing News Awards range across the whole of UK and Irish commercial fishing.
So if an industry stalwart has mentored or inspired you in your career, put their name forward for Over-10m Fisherman of the Year, Under- 10m Fisherman of the Year or the Lifetime Achievement Award.
If there’s a young fisherman or new recruit aboard your boat, in your port or at your training college whose aptitude and enthusiasm make you feel hopeful about the future, put them forward for Young Fisherman of the Year or Trainee Fisherman of the Year.
If a company, organisation or individual gave you exceptional service during
2023, nominate them in the Service Provider of the Year category – or if your local port or landing area went above and beyond in supporting your vessel, put them forward for Port of the Year.
If you’ve been impressed by an initiative that makes a real difference in terms of the industry’s sustainability credentials, nominate them for this year’s Sustainability Award. We’re also looking for worthy candidates for Initiative of the Year, Technical Innovation of the Year, Under- 15m Boat of the Year and Over- 15m Boat of the Year.
We are relying on you to tell us about the people, companies and organisations all around the UK and Ireland who deserve recognition, so that this year’s awards really do celebrate the very best of our industry.
Shortlists will then be drawn up before voting opens for eight of the categories.
A panel of judges from the fishing industry will decide the winners of the remaining four.
The gala awards evening, which will take place at The Chester Hotel in Aberdeen on 8 May, will include a drinks reception, a gourmet seafood meal and entertainment from top Scottish comedian Fred MacAulay.
