A combination of fortuitous timing, proactive thinking and full co-operation, enabled the above photograph depicting skipper Stephen West’s last three boats spanning 17 years to be taken at Fraserburgh last week, shortly before the new Daystar sailed on her maiden trip, reports David Linkie.

The outside boat, Gairloch skipper Angus McLeod’s Fladda Maid UL 209, was skippered by Stephen West from 2001 for eight years before being sold to Cornwall and renamed Crystal Sea SS 118. This twin-rig trawler returned to Scotland just under a year ago to be renamed Fladda Maid.

The middle boat is skipper Stephen West’s previous Daystar BF 151, built by Macduff Shipyards in 2008, and is lying alongside the new Daystar FR 86.
